High-reliability passive components on board Orion enable the next era of deep space exploration

The successful launch of Artemis II marks a major milestone in space exploration. For the first time since Apollo 17, astronauts are traveling toward the Moon — and farther than any crew has gone before. At the heart of this mission is the Orion spacecraft, designed to safely transport astronauts in deep space. This spacecraft relies on highly reliable electronic systems to operate in extreme environments, where failure is not an option.

Exxelia contributes to this achievement by providing advanced passive components integrated into critical onboard systems. High-reliability capacitors and magnetic components are engineered to perform under the harshest conditions, including intense radiation, extreme temperature variations, and the vacuum of space.

These components play a key role in power management, signal integrity, and system stability — ensuring that every function of the spacecraft operates with precision and reliability throughout the mission.

Among the technologies deployed, Exxelia provides high-reliability PM907 capacitors, specifically designed for demanding space applications requiring long-term stability and robustness. In parallel, advanced magnetic components from the SESI and CMC ranges are integrated into onboard systems, supporting efficient power conversion, electromagnetic compatibility, and signal filtering. Together, these solutions contribute to ensuring optimal performance and reliability of the Orion spacecraft throughout the mission.
